DIGITAL
AUDIO BROADCASTING
Digital audio broadcasting or DAB
is a developing technology for broadcasting audio programming in
digital form. It is audio broadcasting in which analog audio is
converted into a digital signal and transmitted on an assigned channel
in the AM or (more usually) FM frequency range.
The acronym DAB is used both to identify the generic technology
of digital audio broadcasting, and specific technical standards,
particularly the Eureka 147 standard described below. Standardization
of DAB technology is promoted by the World DAB Forum, which represents
more than 30 countries, not including the United States.
